City of Leander Implementation of Stage 2 Mandatory Water Conservation Measures:

Fines:

First offense: warning

Second offense: $50 fine

Third offense: $100 fine

Fourth offense: $200 fine

Fifth offense: shoot to kill (just kidding...)

Due to exceptionally low lake levels the Lower Colorado River Authority has asked its water customers to implement mandatory water-use restrictions according to their drought contingency plan.  The City of Leander will begin Stage 2 (MANDATORY) water conservation measures beginning 9/2/2011:

All City of Leander water customers must follow the twice-a-week watering schedule:

1. Odd numbered residential addresses may water lawns on Wednesdays and Saturdays

2. Even numbered residential addresses may water lawns on Thursdays and Sundays

3. All commercial addresses may water on Tuesdays and Fridays

4. Mid-day outdoor watering between the hours of 10AM to 7PM is not allowed

Customers are encouraged to water less if at all possible to further conserve our dwindling water supply.  In addition to the twice-a-week schedule additional conservation measures MUST be followed:

1. Wash Vehicles during designated days and hours according to the mandatory watering schedule.  Use a positive-shtoff hose nozzle for hand-washing.  Commercial car washes may be used at any time.  Charity car washes are NOT allowed.

2. Fill, refill, or add water to swimming pools, hot tubs, and wading pools during the designated days and hours according to the mandatory watering schedule.  Operate other outdoor water features such as ornamental ponds only if they recirculate water or to support aquatic life.  Drain pools onto pervious surfaces.

3. Maintain sprinkler systems in good working order by immediately repairing leaks. (note from Doug:  If you have a sensor on your sprinkler system, please use it JUST in case it ever rains again and it happens to be on your watering day...)

4. Do not use water to wash buildings, sidewalks, driveways, or other paved surfaces.

5. Restaurants are encouraged to serve water only upon request.

Additional information about lake levels and water conservation can be found at www.lcra.org, www.watersmart.org, or www.leandertx.org.
